Melchionne
To sum up his writing quickly,he begins by explaining his idea of an artistic drop out. This is basically someone who lacked artistic skills in elementary school and was discouraged because they didn't have natural talent to create a life like picture. My favorite part of this reading was when he talked down on the people who say "even i can do that" at a museum, which he says is something an artistic drop out would say.
He then goes into talking about the education of art schools. After that, he speaks about aesthetic health which is something that according to him, artistic drop outs lack. Aesthetic health according to him is the ability to take in art. I feel that skateboarding has helped increase my aesthetic health. When I go into a new city, not only will I look at the buildings for its aesthetic appeal but also I am looking at all the surroundings to see if anything is skateable.
Hein
She explains about museums in both America and in Europe. Nothing was really too interesting about this reading.
Danto
Danto explains both the meanings of monuments and memorials. He says we create monuments to honor events and thus to honor ourselves. We create memorials to honor the dead. He then goes on by saying that if we had won the Vietnam war, then the vietnam wall would have not been erected. I sort of agree with him although it is not wrong on the creators behalf. They wanted to make something so that we could recognize the event.
