3/19

The question "Can an ordinary viewer ever experience art - particularly politically charged, socially relevant art - in a neutral, detached, and objective way?", comes up immediately in Brand's writing. I don't think this is possible. Everyone has there own biased on things due to the way that they were raised. Brand states that a way to get around being biased towards work is to go into viewing the work with disinterest. By doing this, you would be following the typical masculine approach according to feminists. When I think about it, I personally don't care to change my approach to viewing art just so that I will appreciate it more. If it offends me, then it offends me and I don't think there is a way I can get around it.
